Trezor.io/Start® — Trezor Suite App (Official) Setup Guide
Quick, secure, and official: follow this step-by-step walkthrough to install Trezor Suite, initialize your Trezor device, create a PIN, and safely back up your recovery. Perfect for beginners and advanced users alike.
1. Before you start
Unbox your Trezor and inspect the packaging for tamper evidence. Use a desktop or laptop with a stable internet connection and the included USB cable. Keep a pen and the recovery card or metal backup ready — you’ll need them to record your recovery phrase.
- Do: Only use
trezor.io/startor the official Trezor Suite app. - Don’t: Enter recovery words into a computer or take photos of them.
2. Download & install Trezor Suite
Open your browser and go to trezor.io/start. Download the official Trezor Suite for your platform (Windows, macOS, Linux) or use the verified web version. Install and open the Suite — it will guide you through driver and bridge installation if your system needs them.
Tip: Always confirm the URL and the app signature if prompted.
3. Initialize your Trezor device
- Connect the Trezor to your computer using the supplied cable.
- Follow on-screen prompts in Trezor Suite to create a new wallet or restore an existing one.
- Install firmware if requested — only accept official firmware updates through Suite.
- Create a PIN to lock the device. Choose a PIN you can remember but that is not easily guessable.
When creating a PIN, the device will shuffle the input positions on the screen so shoulder-surfing is harder — follow the on-device prompts rather than the computer screen when possible.
4. Back up & recovery
Write down your recovery phrase (usually 12–24 words) exactly in order. Store this backup offline in a secure place (preferably on a metal backup plate or in a fireproof safe). This phrase is the only way to restore your funds if your device is lost or damaged.
Never share your recovery phrase. Trezor staff will never ask for it.
5. Security best practices
- Only download firmware and Suite from
trezor.io/start. - Use hardware PIN + recovery phrase — never rely on a single protection layer.
- Consider a passphrase for extra protection (advanced users only; store it separately).
- Keep your device firmware updated and revoke unused API keys or integrations.
- Store backups in multiple secure locations if possible (redundancy helps against single-point failures).
6. Troubleshooting
If the device is not recognized:
- Try a different USB port or cable.
- Install/reinstall Trezor Bridge if prompted.
- Ensure your browser is up to date and does not block the Suite (disable extensions if necessary).
- For PIN or firmware issues, use the official recovery instructions in Suite or contact Trezor support.
7. FAQ
- How long does setup take?
- About 10–20 minutes depending on updates and how carefully you record your recovery phrase.
- Can I restore from a backup?
- Yes — choose “Restore wallet” in Trezor Suite and enter your recovery phrase on the device when prompted.
- Is it safe to use a mobile device?
- Trezor supports certain mobile setups; follow official instructions and avoid public Wi-Fi when restoring or sending funds.
